I guess we can never have enough hats and this one was made as an easy-weekend-relax time-hookin’ project 🙂
It is so simple and quick that you will make it over and over again, I know I will heheh
I used variegated yarn this time but I think any yarn will be great for this hat!
So, if you are ready, LET’S START! 🙂
For this pattern you will need:
(I used „Deltex Oscar “, Weight: Super Bulky (5-6 wpi), Yardage: 98 yards (90 meters), Unit weight: 50 grams (1.76 ounces), Fibers: 75% Acrylic, 25%, Wool) but you can use any yarn that you like working with
- 5 mm crochet hook (or hook required for your yarn)
- yarn needle
- ch – chain
- sc – single crochet
- dc – double crochet
- fpdc – front post double crochet
- bpdc – back post double crochet
- slst – slip stitch
This pattern is written in U.S. crochet terms.
Start by making a chain until you reach 18 cm/ 7 in for ADULT size.
Row 1: 1 sc in the second chain from the hook, 1 sc in every chain to the end, ch 1, turn.
Row 2: 1 sc in every sc from previous row but only through the back loop of the stitch, ch 1, turn.
Repeat row 2 until you reach about 50 cm/ 20.5 in for ADULT size
Fasten off but leave longer tail because we will now join two sides and close the hat at the top.
Insert yarn needle on your finishing tail and join two sides by going through the back loop of the sc stitch and through starting chain, stitch by stitch, like on the picture below:
Tighten as you go!
When you come to the other side continue to wrap the yarn around last stitch of the row, every few rows:
Tighten it as hard as you can to close the hat and tie a few knots to secure it and weave in yarn.
Now, on the other side attach the yarn and make 1 sc on the side of every row, slst in the first sc that you made.
Ch 2, make 1 dc in every sc from previous row, slst in the first dc.
Now we will make 2 rows of fpdc and bpdc.
This is how you do fpdc and bpdc (front post double crochet and back post double crochet):
Do not insert hook through the two loops of the next stitch like you normally would but through the post of double crochet from previous row like it is shown on the picture. Yarn over, and then continue the usual way for double crochet. For fpdc you’re inserting hook from front, and for bpdc you’re inserting hook from behind.
Here are few stitches made:
Your last stitch must be bpdc, if there is one more stitch left (where you should make fpdc) skip it, slst in the first fpdc.
Ch 2, *fpdc in every fpdc from previous row, bpdc in every bpdc from previous row (repeat from * around), slst in first fpdc.
Note: If you are using thinner yarn or if you just want you can make more rows of fpdc-bpdc.
Ch 1, 1 sc in every stitch around, slst in the first sc from the beginning. Fasten off.
To make the pom-pom follow the picture tutorial below. I made this pom pom for other hat but it is the same method. 🙂
Weave in ends and you’re DONE!!! 🙂
I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did! 🙂
